Once there we had to sit at Florian's Cafe (since 1720 if you don't mind) with a classical accompaniment completing the ambience. We didn't want to blow the budget so we had 2 cups of coffee, 1 iced chocolate and few biscotti.
Coffee and bickies
How much would you pay?
That's right, but you weren't sitting in St Marks Sq, Venice.
$55 Euro. That's about AUD$65
Bit shocked by that one, even in Venice.
Ahhhh but you pay for the view
And the band
However, it is easily justified by telling yourself you only go to Venice a couple of times in your life.
We went up the bell tower for a marvellous view but skipped St Marks Basilica as again the queues were crazy. From there we basically spent the day wandering through the tiny lane ways and crossing canals back to the station, eating ice cream, drinking coffee, eating ice cream and deciding which charming hotel we would stay in next time we came to Venice.
Staged but still a good pic
We had to buy a mask
Getting the commodore out is a real bugger!
This time coffee and ice cream 6 euro
After that we headed back to Verona, got the car from the car park and didn't even get lost on the way back to Tregnago. Now that's a successful day.
The next day was going to be a biggy and we were going to drive from Tregnago to Simon and Rachelle's house in northern Switzerland. This was going to involve 3 mountain passes and one of those passes was rated the best driving road in the world by the Top Gear crew (they've seen changed their minds, but still). This is the Stelvio Pass and goodness gracious me it is a CRACKER.
Wow! Makes me breathless just reading all the above. The children look so facinated and absorbed in everything, they will remember their trip for a very long time! Have a safe journey to your next destination and thanks for keeing us all updated. Rani xx
