Bye bye Denmark and hello Sweden and being able to understand and be understood (well a bit)
We caught the train across Oresund and the longest bridge in the world to Sweden and then on to the delightful southern coastal town of Karlskrona where Delia's uncle Stig met us at the station.
He took us the hotel he had booked called simply enough “A Hotel” and very Swedish it was too: lots of white walls, stylish furniture, amazing double glazing. A home away from home.
We then went to Stig's apartment which is a bit on the cosy side but very nice. He lives within 100 metres of the water, but then again most places in Karlskrona are pretty close to the water. (33 islands in all some of which you can only get to by boat) Stig very generously provided an extraordinary meal called a Sandwich Cake. Which is just like you imagine.
To continue the theme of Stig's generosity he had hired a 7 seater car for the time we were in Karlskrona and as he was feeling unwell he let us take it to another amazing thing for kids (how many of those had we been too?). This one was called Kreativum which is in a town 30kms from Karlskrona. It was another kind of Science museum but in this one absolutely everything in it was hands on. It enthralled us for hours with remote control boats, to virtual loggers and all things forest and making paper, relaxation mind power games and mind bender puzzles that created a slight career crisis in Delia when she had trouble with several. There was even a fantastic bubble demonstration where the kids could even stand inside a giant bubble. Bubble tennis anyone?
Being in Sweden was giving me the opportunity to practice my 3 year old Swedish and whilst the Swedes understood me most of the time, there was the common problem of them replying in Swedish much too fast and complex for me to understand. Still, it was a million times better than my Danish.
