We spent about 3 hours in the afternoon exploring the old school Legoland. One of the things I had done when I had been to Legoland was to go to Traffic School and get a Legoland drivers license driving around one of the Lego Cars. Ben and Finley were bursting to do the same. Sadly you had to be 7 so Finley missed out. He was very good about it though and we went on some rides just for him instead. Then it came time for Benny boy to drive the car. He had a 15 minute lesson about driving rules (i.e. try not to crash into anyone, drive on the right hand side of the road) and then he was let loose. Before that though he had to choose a flag to show which language he spoke. He wasn't sure which was the Australian flag so he kept holding up flags of different countries to us as we were standing behind the barrier. He showed an American flag to Delia who burst out with a “Noooooooooooooo!”
Ooops, she didn't mean to sound quite so emphatic.
Canadian flag: “Better”
British flag: “Well, ok”
Australian flag: “Well done”
Keep your hands on the wheel!

After that we were a bit shattered and it was time to go home to gather our strength for another day at Legoland the following day.

It opened at 10 the next morning and we were there at 10.01. In for another day of Lego-a-rama and I was a bit shocked to discover nearly all the new sections weren't enormous Lego creations but rides with cars shaped liked Lego pieces.
Yes I had discoverd that twinge of disappointment to which I was always destined. Sadly a lot of Legoland is like any other theme park with water rides, scary rides, train rides. The kids loved it and one ride we know as Mad Mouse had even brave Ben saying, “That was a bit scary”, but I could have been at Moomba. I think Lego need to go into the room full of mirrors and take a good hard look at themselves and make more amazing Lego creations. Then again, Legoland is immensely popular and if they did what I suggested they'd probably go broke.
The kids LOVED it. I mean, really LOVED it, so I probably should keep my opinions to myself, and by afternoon time we were knackered and it was time to head home. But first the Lego Shop. The damage to the credit card was more than I was expecting but Denmark is an insanely expensive place. Much more expensive than Germany and we had to get a couple of very cute Lego backpacks for Finley and Maja. In fact before we left the shop Maja had put the backpack on and was walking around with it on. She really has developed a fascination for bags of all sorts!

Then it was time to head back to the hotel and play with the new Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean (I know, I know, they haven't seen it and won't till they're 12) Lego.

Despite my twinge of disappointment, it was a wonderful visit and we waved goodbye to Legoland and caught the bus and train to Copenhagen to meet our friend Hanne.
