Copenhagen part 1

We arrived in our old stamping ground of Copenhagen and were met by our friend Hanne at the train station. It was lovely to be back in the town we'd lived in for about 4 months back in 2002 and the bike heaven that it is. We drove out to Hanne's place about 15 kms north of the centre.

Jasper and Hanne and Jasper's son Morten hiding in the corner

Hanne's house is lovely place with the obligatory basement and she had come across a trampoline this summer. The trampoline was an instant hit with Ben, Finley and Maja, as well as Hanne and her partner Jasper actually. They had a little bouncing competition happening: bum, then feet. Hanne's record stood at 180 which was trumped by Jasper with a handy 200. More on that later.

Ben decided jumping off was as much fun as jumping up and down
So did Finley

It was a lovely day so it was time to go to the local lake. Just up the road from their house is this extraordinary lake apparently a relic from the last ice age. Incredibly deep in the middle and very pleasant indeed if a tad chilly. They had a pier which stretched out for 50 metres so you could jump in. Ben and I went out to the end of the pier to do just that. Ben encouraged me to go first, I did just that and the cheeky blighter promptly ran back down the pier to the others. It was pretty cold. Such a stunning setting and you'd never know you were in the city.
The next day Hanne showed us another local marvel: an enormous open museum which covered hectares and hectares where they'd assembled houses from all over Denmark and southern Sweden from many different ages. Some places were a few hundred years old, some were over 1000 years old. Quite an amazing collection of buildings and all reconstructed exactly as they were.

 Some wonderful old buildings

At the museum that day there was a short silent play about the history of the bicycle. Very funny and very entertaining.

Costume theatre and bikes, what's not to like
