London Again Part 3

At the Tate Modern and examined the Turbine Hall and the boys and I watched an animated film amalgamated from the ideas of thousands of kids called: The Itch of the Golden Nit.

The next day we headed to Kew Gardens to catch up with the Mums group again and a speical visit from Gillian from the Mums group who now lives in New York

The following day we headed to the British Museum in the morning and saw some amazing things. The Rosetta Stone, the Sutton Hoo hoard, Vindolanda postcards (wooden tablets sent from a Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall), the Lewis Chessmen, Egyptian Mummies, Mesopotamian statutes. All rather remarkable.

Then we headed to Rani and Graeme's place for lunch and to pick up one of our bags. We got there a bit late because our bus caught fire! First riots, then buses catch fire. London is crazy.
It was wonderful to see Rani and Graeme again. Hopefully we'll see them in Oz in 2013 when the Cricket World Cup is in Australia.
Another day and more play time with Ben's mates from mum's group. This time Natasha and her 4 kids.
Then we spent the weekend at Didi's place in Gerrards Cross. We caught the bus out to Uxbridge where Didi was to pick us up and we went past Ealing Hospital where Ben was born.

Ben and Ealing Hospital

Still a bit shabby ole Ealing Hospital. Further up the road we went past Hillingdon bicycle racing circuit where the last race I had there I crashed at 50 km/h and smashed my helmet into 6 pieces. Ahh happy memories. Didi picked us up but the first thing we did was go to Bekonscot Model Village which Didi suggested. Lots of fun with the model village set in the 1930s with lots of ace model railways too. We even got to sit on the train with the smallest engine with a rather portly chap driving the train.

An added bonus was that the local Bird Society had set up shop with all their owls and eagles. Ben went nuts and it took him 15 minutes to decide which bird he would hold and get a photo. He ended up with a beautiful barn owl.

Spending the weekend at Gerrards Cross was lovely but we had to return to London to go to Kensington Palace. They are redoing the ole palace and in the midst of their renos they have put together a delightful exhibition featuring 7 princesses who had lived in the palace at some stage. They had “Enquirers” wandering around helping us search for clues about the princesses. I got to sit on a throne and issue commands. My first was for Ben to read books more, the second command was for chocolate.
I think I'd make a good king.
We also had some high tea at the Orangery. Very pleasant.
