After that we had planned to do the Harry Potter walk around the City of London and we duly rocked up late (bloody planned Tube closures for upgrades). It was a fabulous walk and Benny Boy even got to play Harry in a scene from the Philosopher's Stone.
Have a look at this:
We got to look at various buildings which inspired Jo Rowling for Harry Potter. Building such as the Bank of England (Gringotts Bank), Leadenhall Market, the Jamaica Coffee House. Then we crossed the Thames and looked at where the DeathEaters flew in along the Thames. We saw the Gherkin, the Onion, the Tower Bridge.
After so much Harry Potter discussion, we had to go home and read more Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (inspired by the Fire of London Monument which we also saw).
We had been telling the boys that'd we take them to see Cars 2 and indeed we headed to the new Westfield in Shepherds Bush. Apparently Westfields is all rather exciting in London.
Delia's aunt Didi came over for dinner. She is always very entertaining.
Foolishly the next day we agreed to go to Hamleys toy store and we left the store with several Harry Potter wands. Then a spot of lunch down Regent St and saw a photo of myself.
Steve McQueen or John Symons: never seen in the same room together!
After which we headed towards the Tate Modern.
En route to the Tate Modern we went down to the banks of the Thames as it was low tide. Delia was determined to discover some Roman coins but we had to make do with some Viking nails and 150 year old Schweppes bottle. OK, unconfirmed. Finley didn't have the stamina to keep fossicking so we went ahead and built a sand castle on the shores of the Thames. Another thing on this trip to add to the list of things I never thought I'd do.
